Faith & Culture Conversations
For the past four years Word of Life Church has hosted the annual Faith & Culture Conference, with guest speakers such as Eugene Peterson, Miroslav Volf, and Scot McKnight. These gatherings have really been conversations, and are quite different from what is usually encountered in most church conferences. Our purpose is to be together, hear from some of the most important Christian thinkers of our time, and engage in substantive conversation about our Christian faith in the context of early 21st century North American culture. These have been absolutely wonderful symposiums!
I’m very excited that our guest speaker this year is Walter Brueggemann. Walter is William Marcellus McPheeters Professor of Old Testament Emeritus and Columbia Theological Seminary. He is the author of numerous books on Hebrew Bible interpretation, biblical theology, and the task of preaching in the contemporary world. Dr. Brueggemenn is widely considered to be the leading Christian interpreter of the Old Testament.
Along with Walter Brueggemann, I will also be speaking from my new book, Farewell to Mars, and engaging in conversation about the thoughts on Christianity and the Church set forth in the book. As in the past, there will be ample opportunity for question and response with our speakers.
The Faith and Culture Conference is always an annual highlight for me. I sincerely believe we are talking about things that really matter—things that must be intelligently considered to effectively engage our culture with the Christian faith. I really hope you will make plans, today, to be with us for our 2013 conversations. It won’t be the same without you!
